Overview

AL NG (Planned Assignment Logistics – Next Gen) is an internal crew management platform developed by MariApps for the maritime industry. The platform handles operations like crew planning, assignments, document tracking, and voyage scheduling for global shipping clients. I was involved in designing critical UI screens and workflows to improve usability and information clarity for crew managers and internal staff.

My Role

  • UI/UX Designer (Guest Designer assigned from Cydez Technologies)

  • Interface Design & Workflow Optimization

  • Design Hand-off & Developer Support

  • Worked within MariApps design & product team

The Challenge

PAL NG is a complex, enterprise-grade tool used by non-tech-savvy users (like fleet personnel and HR teams). The biggest challenges included:

  • Overloaded screens with dense data tables

  • Inconsistent UI patterns across modules

  • Poor user flow for multi-step actions (e.g., assigning a crew to voyage)

  • Need for scalable, reusable components for future updates

Final Outcome

  • Improved clarity and navigation in core PAL NG workflows

  • Reduced cognitive load through better UI spacing, grouping, and labeling

  • Helped standardize UI across modules for faster learning and ease of use

  • Enabled a more maintainable design-to-dev handoff process

Key Takeaways

This project helped me grow in enterprise UI design, communication with cross-functional teams, and understanding real-world workflow challenges in a domain-specific product.
